Zazen

Zazen is a contemporary beachfront villa on Cattlewash Beach, on the East Coast of Barbados. Designed by Barbados architect Doug Luke, it blends Eastern spiritual traditions with industrial design, in a chalet-style loft with 6,000 square feet of living space over two levels.

The shared living and dining areas have clean lines and detailing in stainless steel, concrete, stone and timber, with 30-foot ceilings. Operable louvres and large sliding doors are made of Sipo Mahogany. The kitchen has professional-grade stainless-steel appliances hidden behind panels that match the cabinetry.

The top-floor master suite is private and self-contained, with a wet bar, walk-in closet, office space and a small home theatre. Its outdoor terrace has a round soaking bath and a daybed, and overlooks the dining and entertaining area, the pool deck and the beach.

Outside, there is an eight-seat dining area with a fire pit and barbecue beside the pool. A full concierge service is available, and the setting on the Atlantic coast is informal and relaxed.
