Moonhole Eco Villa

This three-bedroom villa is at Moonhole, a private eco-community established in the 1960s on the western tip of Bequia in the Grenadines. It is one of a small collection of eco villas set within a nature reserve, with views over Moonhole Bay, the sea and the nearby island of St Vincent.

The house sits on the rocks of the Moonhole Peninsula about 160 feet above sea level, overlooking the bay. At this height it catches the trade winds, which keep insects to a minimum and keep the house pleasant and cool through the summer. Like the other homes here, it is built in a distinctive organic style that is open to the elements and suited to indoor-outdoor living in the Caribbean.

The villa is arranged over two levels. The upper level holds the main reception rooms: a spacious sitting area, a dining area with a long built-in stone dining table and benches, and a kitchen with stone and wooden cupboards and work surfaces. The living and dining area leads out to an open deck with a bar and panoramic ocean views to the east and west. One of the three bedrooms is also on this level, with its own bathroom and fine ocean views. The other two bedrooms and a second bathroom are on the lower level. The bedrooms have fitted closets, and wide arched windows and doorways open to the cooling sea breezes.

The house has a water storage tank, and internet is available over the mobile data network using a data card from the local mobile phone company.

The villa's own beach within Moonhole is a couple of minutes' stroll away. With its private coral beach, Moonhole is a place for privacy and peace, surrounded by nature, from turtles, tree frogs and iguanas to tropical birds, with snorkelling in the warm waters. Moonhole is owned by a trust dedicated to preserving the area as a nature preserve, while the homes themselves are privately owned and rented out when the owners are not using them.

The villa is a popular rental with a long track record, so it offers the opportunity to generate rental income as well as being a wonderful holiday home.
