Moondust Villa

Moondust Villa is a three-bedroom home in the Moonshine Ridge Collection at Apes Hill, St James, set near the highest peak in Barbados. The collection takes a fresh, clean and boldly modern approach to Caribbean living, and it pays homage to the island's heritage with indigenous natural stone sourced from Apes Hill itself. It was designed by Douglas Luke of Elements Architecture, who notes that the growing vulnerability of the natural environment is drawing younger clients towards a closer, more consistent connection with it.

Walls have been taken away to create large, open spaces with floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows that bring in natural light and the views around the house. High ceilings add to the sense of space, and deep covered verandas balance all that glass, controlling sunlight, reducing glare and keeping the rooms cool.

The arrival is deliberate. An oversized pivot front door lines up with a second door at the end of the private foyer, framing a view straight through to the pool. The wide foyer connects to the living areas and acts as a transition between inside and out. A private study has sliding glass doors to the veranda and pool, so work sits comfortably alongside the setting. In the master suite a floating feature wall stands in front of a large wet room, with a walk-in closet tucked behind the wall for privacy. The villa also lists a library, game room, wet bar, breakfast nook, mudroom, laundry room, sauna and basement.

The house is designed around natural airflow. Atlantic breezes move through the rooms, reducing reliance on air conditioning and saving energy, and there is the option to add further photovoltaic cells. Sustainability is at the core of every Moonshine Ridge home, in line with the environmental commitment of Apes Hill Barbados.

Outside, the design encourages outdoor entertaining and privacy and draws the tropical landscape into daily life. There is an outdoor barbecue, garden pathways and outdoor lighting, and the elevation of the ridge brings cooling trade winds and views over lush gullies and gardens.

Apes Hill Barbados Golf Resort & Community sits high in the hills, looking out over wide panoramic views and a geologically unique part of the island. Residents have an 18 hole and a 9 hole golf course, a driving range, pro shop, clubhouse and restaurant, along with padel and tennis courts, a training facility, a playground and hiking trails in the surrounding area. Security is in place around the clock. Golf, adventure, outdoor living, sport, wellness and good food all form part of the lifestyle on the estate.
