Held at the Bushy Park Race Track, The Barbados Festival of Speed on May 8th was a day of fun and fast action for the whole family, with the highlight being the three-time Formula 1 Champion, Lewis Hamilton, headlining the event.
The full day of entertainment included Monster X Trucks, Stunt Bikes, Microbangers, British Super Bikes, Suzuki Challenge Series Swift Cup races, with a Classic Car Parade kicking off the festival. Motorheads on the island and those from as far as the UK enjoyed a day of thrills and spills.
The highlight of the day, was of course the Caribbean crowd favorite, Lewis Hamilton, as he raced his 2013 Formula 1 Car on the Bushy Track Circuit. Reaching speeds of 170 miles per hour, of which he said in an interview had he a longer stretch, he could have taken the machine to speeds in excess of 230 miles per hour!!
Lewis has Caribbean roots, with his father being from Grenada, but he was quick to say that Barbados felt very much like his second home. He spent the day on the track, in the pits, and with his fans. He also graciously offered to take “selfies” with all who came out to support him.
Barbados, you have not seen the last of Lewis Hamilton! He stated that he “has plans for the next 10 years at least to keep Barbados on his calendar of events.” This will start with his next visit– scheduled in just two months’ time – for Kadooment 2016! Barbados certainly looks forward to welcoming him back to the island.
May Kicks Off Wedding Season in the Caribbean
The One Caribbean Estates team recently met with Emma Corrie from Emma Corrie Designs, a top wedding planner based in Barbados. Emma’s personalized, artistic approach to creating luxurious Caribbean weddings has earned her numerous international accolades and celebrity clientele. Emma was kind enough to share 4 of this year’s top wedding trends with us:

1. All things vintage . Think Downton Abbey-esque details like lace linens, pearl accents, mercury glass vases and coupe Champagne glasses.
2. White and cream color palette . With softer muted tones as a style base, pops of color can easily be added into the overall design.

3. Chic balloon décor. Whimsical and fun, incorporating tasteful balloon décor can be a distinctive way to add elegance.
4. Candlelight and more candlelight. Whether votives, lanterns or a combination of the two, lots of candlelit spaces creates a romantic and memorable ambience for all.

Real Estate Tips
Special Entry Permits and Real Estate Investment
Access to the luxury residential market in Barbados is a straightforward exercise with no entry taxes, minimal exit taxes and no requirement for non-nationals to possess an alien landholding license. To attract further foreign direct investment, the Government of Barbados has implemented the Special Entry and Residency Programme (SERP) which encourages persons who make a substantial investment in the country to qualify for residency through investment.
Effective September 1, 2013, high net worth individuals who own more than US$2 million in property and investments in Barbados purchased with funds sourced outside the island, are eligible for a SERP for 5 years. Similarly, foreigners who possess special skills required on the island will also be eligible for this permit. Spouses and dependants of these individuals are also issued with a permit on payment of the relevant fees.
This programme appeals to the following categories of investors:
  1. Interested foreigners who own substantial residential property or investment valued at US$2,000,000 or more purchased with funds sourced outside of Barbados and not subject to any mortgage.
  2. Foreign nationals interested in SERP who qualify by virtue of their possession of special skills deemed critical to the growth and development of the island.
An exclusive combination of industry knowledge and entrepreneurial talent offers clientele access to superior real estate expertise. For more information on the Special Entry and Residency Programme Contact us at
