One Caribbean Estates News – The One Sandy Lane Polo Challenge at Apes Hill Polo Club

Christie's horse

One Caribbean Estates and our affiliates at Christie’s International Real Estate proudly hosted the The One Sandy Lane Polo Challenge from January 24th-30th at Apes Hill Polo Club. As the first international polo event of the season in Barbados, there was much excitement from players and spectators alike. Four thrilling matches between teams Australia and Barbados were played before the tournament culminated with a nail-biting final on Saturday, January 30th. Guests enjoyed an elegantly decorated pavilion as they took in all of the action from the match.

Both teams played incredibly well, but the Aussies reigned victorious over Team Barbados! Oi, oi, oi! We look forward to welcoming Team Australia back next year for another exciting tournament. We also want to extend a big thank-you to all of our sponsors who generously donated for our raffle event for the final. Check out the photos below for some of the week’s highlights.

Royal Westmoreland certainly has something for everyone with its five-star amenities! For the golf enthusiast, there is a world-renowned 18 hole championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Tennis players can enjoy playing on the estate’s pristine clay courts and then stroll down to the clubhouse for a refreshing beverage or casual lunch. The beautiful fitness centre facility, “The Sanctuary”, boasts a large gym, exercise classes, and a lap pool to help residents maintain an active lifestyle. And let’s not forget to mention Mullins Beach Club access privileges, which include a full bell captain service and private, members-only beachfront dining.

Valentine’s Day at Fusion Rooftop

Fusion Valentine's Day

Love is certainly in the air for Valentine’s Day and many restaurants here in Barbados are getting ready for all of the weekend festivities! We had the chance to visit Fusion Rooftop, a new alfresco dining “hotspot” on the West Coast to check out their weekend dining options. With its state-of-the-art retractable roof, guests were treated to a romantic evening under the stars. The four-course special menu included a fabulous choice of starters, sushi, main courses, and deserts. Couples were also treated to a glass of complimentary Prosecco and a red rose at the end of their meal. What a special way to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the Caribbean!

Building the Dream Home: An overview of Building Construction and Design

At some point in our lives we all have an idea of what we would like our dream home to look like and which features we’d like it to include. Unfortunately for far too many persons, this dream can quickly turn into a nightmare if we start off on the wrong foot.

In this month’s piece, I’d like to help those persons be better equipped by providing a brief insight and overview of home construction and the elements involved. The construction of your dream home consists of two major elements: The design process and the construction process. Understanding the critical components of each process requires open and honest communication with the individuals who oversee and are involved in each stage.

Below are the participants involved in this process are usually as follows:

➢ Owner/Purchaser
➢ Architect
➢ Engineer
➢ Government agencies (Responsible for adherence to zoning regulations and building permissions)
➢ Contractor and Suppliers (Responsible for providing valuable information regarding the feasibility of the design)

The input of all of the aforementioned individuals helps to move the design towards one that encourages an efficient construction process by implementing and using the correct components, locally available labour and materials and emerging cost saving techniques.
