This hurricane season has been truly devastating for many of the Caribbean islands.
Fortunately, Barbados was not affected by any of the recent hurricanes or tropical storms.
Due to its easterly position, Barbados is rarely in the direct path of hurricanes and other disasters.
Presently, One Caribbean Estates and One Sandy Lane will continue to support our Caribbean neighbors by supplying necessary items for survival.
As a result of the hurricanes, we know many travelers have been displaced over this Christmas and Winter period; One Caribbean Estates wishes to assist in your efforts to re-locate your vacation plans as best as we can.

You too can donate items to St. Barths, Dominica, St. Martin and other islands struck by hurricanes this season.

A New Montessori on Barbados’ West Coast
Located in the northwestern parish of St. Peter, St. Luke’s Academy is an excellent choice for expat families relocating to the island of Barbados. St. Luke’s was established in 2016 due to the demand for a private primary school on the West Coast with an international-focused curriculum to complement the syllabus set forth by the Barbados Ministry of Education.
St. Luke’s Academy classrooms provide low teacher to child ratios and emphasizes individualized learning with structure while maximizing each child’s potential.
If you visit St. Luke’s Academy on any given day, you’ll find students engaged in active learning with elements of touch, taste, sight, and smell incorporated into daily classroom lessons. There’s also an on-site garden, regular walks to experience the
island’s wildlife, and activities that promote children’s creativity and independence.
Let our Estate Agents assist you in arranging a tour of the beautiful new facilities or a meeting with Principal Angelique Edwards

Hurricane Preparedness – Reducing Your Vunerability
Given the recent occurrences and what is being touted as a hyperactive hurricane season, it only seems appropriate that this month we focus on being prepared for the harsh reality that mother nature presents us with at this time of year. According to the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration peak hurricane season usually spans from mid-August to late October. As a homeowner, landlord or even a tenant, one should consider whether they or their landlord has enough insurance protection to withstand a potential hurricane.
If you’re a responsible homeowner, you should acquire a standard homeowner’s insurance policy. Whilst most policies offer a wide range of protection, hurricanes in some instances might only be partially covered. When choosing a home insurance policy, you should seek enough dwelling coverage to completely rebuild your home if it is destroyed by a qualified peril. Bearing in mind, this will be the cost to reconstruct your home which is not the same as what you originally paid to purchase or in some cases build it.
If you’re not sure if you have enough coverage, speak to your insurance company or a qualified appraiser to determine your home’s replacement value and then compare it to the amount of coverage on your policy.
If you’re a tenant and are living in a townhouse, villa or condo, your building is likely covered by your landlord’s policy. However, purchasing protection for your possessions might be a prudent approach to saving yourself the heartache in the long-term.
The liabilities covered by your policy depend on your specific policy and provider. Typically, wind, lightning and flood damage which all usually occur during hurricanes should be included as covered perils. Water damage, however, can be a different story. As the old adage goes better safe than sorry…
Please feel free to contact us today with any questions if you’re looking make your investment in that dream vacation /second-home or need advice on ensuring that you are adequately covered.
